The following devotional is an excerpt from 365 Whispers of Wisdom for Single Moms, available from Barbour. This is an example of my devotional writing, and I hope it lifts your Monday a little. I know it’s a good one for me to keep in mind on this Monday.

God in the Details

When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
Joshua 2:11 NIV

The people of Jericho had reason to be worried. They had seen evidence of God’s strength and support of His children and knew Joshua planned to conquer Canaan. As the key military fortress in the land, they understood that he would soon be at their gates. Yet only Rahab seemed to recognize that the right course of action was to embrace the Lord and open her home to Joshua’s agents. In return, they made sure she and her family survived the attack. Because of her courage and faith, Rahab became an ancestor of Jesus.

Sometimes, when our own lives seem to be under siege from the demands of work, bills, and our children, finding the work of God amidst the strife can be difficult. Even though we acknowledge His power, we may overlook the gentle touches, the small ways in which He makes every day a little easier. Just as the Lord cares for the tiniest bird (Matt 10:29-31), so He seeks to be a part of every detail in your life. Look for Him there.

Father God, I know you are by my side every day, good or bad, and that you love and care for me. Help me to see your work in my life and in the lives of my family. Amen.
