Then she said, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.Joshua 15:19 NASB

Throughout Scripture, women often appear on the scene as the voice of practicality. Abigail appealed to David’s understanding of God; the daughters of Zelophehad (Numbers 27:1-8) petitioned Moses for fairness. And here Achsah, the daughter of Caleb, asks her father for water. Caleb had just awarded Achsah and her new husband a generous piece of land, but she knew that in the middle of a desert they needed more than land; they needed water.

In our overwhelming schedules today, as we try to balance all the different pieces of our lives, we should never overlook a very reasonable solution to our need for more time in the day and more hands for the work: Ask for help. It’s biblical, practical, and understandable. And, in doing so, we may just be blessed by the kind of help God brings into our lives.

Lord, I know I can always turn to you for help. Let me remember that I can also rely on believers around me in a way that will bring blessings to us all. Amen.
