Tonight, I am quiet. The emotional upheaval of the last week has pushed me to the edge, so tonight I seek solace in silence. As I did, I recalled something I wrote many months ago.
—————–
For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel:
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
Isaiah 30:15 NKJV
Long days, frantic schedules, and increasing demands at work and at home can crowd God completely out of our minds and weary us to the bone. We plan and anticipate troubles with money, work, and our family. . . yet we are never quite prepared enough. Something always comes up to make our lives a touch more difficult and exhausting. Too many times, there is just not enough US to go around.
This is when we need to recall that our true strength and sure rest never comes from our own efforts. According to Bible scholars, “quietness and confidence” in this verse can also mean “utter trust.” Only when we rely on God and spend time with Him, does comfort find a way into our everyday world. Trusting in God’s strength is the only way to true rest and success.
Father God, you care for us so much! When we left the whirlwinds of life crowd you out, help us remember that only by trusting in your love and grace do we find true strength and rest. Amen.
